Industrial
Pretreatment
Control of industrial wastewater discharges to the facility is accomplished through an industrial monitoring and pretreatment program. Results of sampling taken at a variety of outfalls must be within allowable limits depicted in the Local Sewer Use Law ordinance. Pretreatment program staff is engaged daily in collecting samples from the wastewater discharged at twenty-two (22) locations in the Gloversville-Johnstown area. The obtained laboratory results of several- thousand individual samples ensure that the wastewater treatment plant and the environment are protected.
In addition, monitoring technicians inspect industrial pretreatment facilities to ensure that they are properly operated and maintained. Development of this program, which received the 1989 Municipal Achievement Award, has resulted in significant reduction in the organic strength of industrial wastewater discharged to the local sewer collection system.
